How to Be Yourself and Cultivate a Positive Self-Image

Positive Self Image
Be yourself. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve heard this phrase in the movies, songs and books I’ve encountered. And I have to admit I never really understood what it meant all this time. Until recently.
There’s more to this phrase than what you think. Sure, you know yourself better than any other person. You know what you like and dislike, you understand your feelings, and you can most probably say that you are your own best friend.
Yet why do you still frown when you see the mirror. Why do you keep comparing yourself to other people? Why do you fail to see your strengths as a person?
This is the moment where you are actually being far from yourself. You are not being you. You are being what others expect you to be. You are living up to other’s expectations, not yours. And thus, you feel discontented, unhappy and emotionally weak.
Be yourself, and follow your passion
In a society that uses money as measure of success, it’s easy to lose our head into ideals imposed by the rich and powerful.
Most young professionals get into high paying jobs to fulfill their ego, and make their parents proud of how much they earn. Unknowingly making their life miserable by being in a job they hate.
It is easy to lie to yourself, masquerade happiness by pretentious Facebook posts, and live a life of quiet desperation. People see one another in terms of job title and salary, like it’s the very essence of self-worth.
Instead be yourself, feed your mind, soul and spirit. Cultivate passion and love with work you have fun doing, whatever fun means to you.

Be yourself, no matter who you face
Embrace your personality. No matter how different you can be. If you are an awkward introvert like me, a spontaneous extrovert, a cool ambivert, these labels don’t really matter because you are who you think and feel.
Don’t sweat it out, drop all the pretenses and don’t ever change yourself just to fit in. Find your strengths and just be you, no matter whom you face! Because genuine people don’t mind, and those are just the people you need in your life.
Be yourself, and tune in to your feelings
The state of being at peace with yourself is achieved by tuning in to your feelings. This makes you strong even at the face of discord or stress.
Being in tune with your feeling involves understanding yourself in times of anger, sadness, happiness or fear. You acknowledge all this emotions with no denial and full acceptance.
When you are mad, you try your best to stay calm and gain composure. When you are sad, you understand that it is part of life, and that to better appreciate happy moments, we must know sadness. And when you’re in fear, you find the root cause of your fear and deal with it by changing your mindset.
Be yourself, and trust your intuition
People always think that wise decisions are those that are practical and purposeful. But sometimes it isn’t. If you always make decisions based on what you think is right, not what you feel is right, then, you are going to have a bad time achieving harmony

A FOOD FOR THOUGHT: WILL COMPUTERIZED VOICES EVER SOUND HUMAN?

siri-ios-smartphone-iphone-appleSounding robotic has never been a compliment, but with the right amount of tinkering, computer scientists and engineers are hoping that this may soon change. Computerized voices haven’t quite hit the mark yet on sounding … human, and it’s the subject of one of the tech industry’s latest major efforts. As an increasing number of devices begin speaking to us — fromApple’s Siri to Amazon’s Alexa to our GPS system, it’s becoming increasingly important for machines to have voices we actually want to listen to.
As the New York Times reports, the relatively new focus area of “conversational agents” in the little-understood field of human-computer interaction design, seeks to build programs that understand language and are also able to respond to commands. Today, it is impossible for a computer’s voice to be rendered indistinguishable from that of a human’s. At least, not for anything more complex than offering short bits of information — whether it’ll rain, for example, or when to turn left.
Part of the issue lies in “prosody,” which is the capacity to correctly enunciate or stress certain syllables — saying words the way an actual human would. And of course, there’s also the uniquely human ability to add emotion into pronunciation. After all, we don’t always say “good” or even “left” in the same way. Machines, on the other hand, have yet to master that nuance.
The problem is we don’t have good controls over how we say to these synthesizers, ‘Say this with feeling,’” Scottish computer scientist and Carnegie Mellon professor Alan Black told the Times. And it may still be some time before we’re actually able to do this at all.
But that might not be a bad thing, some say. “Jarring is the way I would put it,” Brian Langner, senior speech scientist at digital speech company ToyTalk, said about having machines sound too much like humans. “When the machine gets some of those things correct, people tend to expect that it will get everything correct.”
So no, you probably won’t be able to get Siri to sound like your mom anytime soon. But you may want to enjoy that inability while you can.

THE IPHONE WILL SOON BE A MORE CAPABLE REPLACEMENT FOR THE APPLE TV REMOTE

Shortly after the release of the fourth-generation Apple TV, the company updated itsApple Remote app to make certain tasks like entering passwords less painful, but compared to the actual remote, functionality is limited. Later this year, the app is going to get much more useful.
Apple is currently working a new Remote app for the iPhone, Apple’s Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi told John Gruber in an interview on his podcast, The Talk Show. Unlike the current app, Federighi said the new app is “really a full replacement” for the hardware remote, offering all of its functionality from Siri to trackpad gestures.
This even includes gaming, including the ability to use the iPhone as a second controller in two player games. “Remote for one person, phone for one person,” Cue said.
Neither Cue nor Federighi mentioned a specific release window for the new remote app, but it doesn’t seem that we’ll have to wait for too long, as it was mentioned that the app is expected to be released in “a couple of months. The interview is quite revealing considering Apple’s reputation for keeping its plans tightly under wraps. In addition to talk of the upcoming remote app, Cue and Federighi shined light on subscriber numbers for both Apple Music and iCloud.
The updated remote app isn’t the only way that controlling the Apple TV is getting simpler this year. Last week the beta for tvOS 9.2 was updated, adding support for voice dictation, making entering information like user names and passwords much easier than with the standard remote. There is no word on when exactly the update is coming, but it’s expected to arrive sometime this spring.
The full interview includes other interesting tidbits, like the upcoming Bluetooth keyboard support in tvOS 9.2. To listen, head over to Gruber’s website Daring Fireball. The discussion of the new Remote app starts around 22 minutes in.

Apple Music has more than 11 million subscribers, executives confirm

Last month the Financial Times cited a source reporting that Apple Music had topped 10 million subscribers. It seems the source was well-informed, as a recent interview with Apple executives Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi shows.
In fact, the company “just passed over 11 million Apple Music subscribers,” Cue told John Gruber on his podcast, The Talk Show. These weren’t the only numbers shared, as Cue also said that the company has 782 million iCloud users, who upload billions of photos to the service each week.
If the user base continues to grow at this rate, it seems likely that Apple Music could top 20 million users by the end of the year, just as the Financial Times estimated last month. This would put the service within striking distance of Spotify, which currently boasts over 20 million subscribers but has had much longer to build its custom .The subscriber numbers weren’t the only interesting tidbits shared in the interview. As Digital Trends has reported elsewhere, Cue and Federighi revealed to Gruber that Apple is currently working on an overhauled Apple Remote app which, once released, will allow an iPhone to work as a “full replacement” for the remote included with the Apple TV, even working as a second controller for two-player games.
The two executives also talked about the new dictation feature coming in tvOS 9.2, saying that it’s a feature that Apple wanted to include from the very start. Unfortunately, no release information for the update, currently in beta, was given.
The interview wasn’t all about cold hard facts, however. Cue also took a moment to tease Apple CEO Tim Cook’s infamous blurry Super Bowl photo, which he deleted shortly afterward due to relentless trolling on Twitter. “He’s a huge sports fan, and was loving it, and he loved that his team actually won the Super Bowl,” Cue said.
For the full interview, listen to the full podcast, which is available at Daring Fireball.

10 Useful Habits that Will Increase Your Productivity

Many of our habits are there for no other reason than the fact we failed to resist them. This is not always a bad thing, for example, if you are habitually a competitive person, then this may be turned to your advantage to make you more productive.
Here are ten habits, both nurtured and self-imposed, that you may use to help you become more productive.
A tendency towards planning
People that plan tend to be far more productive than people that do not. It is a broad and sweeping statement, but even something as simple as habitually setting deadline for each task, will help make you more productive. If you ally that with pre-activity planning sessions, you may find yourself more efficient and ergo more productive.
Habitual but controlled analysis
Beware of paralysis by analysis, but with that said, there is a lot of power in analyzing what you are doing and why. It is the reason so many smokers seem to do well in high-powered positions. Smoking takes them out of the moment for a few minutes and allows them to reflect on what they are doing and if it is the right course of action.
A consideration for cleanliness
Counterproductive people and unproductive workers tend to live and work in dirty, messy and/or unorganized conditions. Does one cause the other; is it due to a lack of positive habits? Whatever the reason, you should consider cleanliness as a priority and create habits to keep your work area clean so that it doesn’t interfere with your productivity.
Efficiency should be your goal
Your goal should be to do as much as possible in the shortest possible time without waste. It is true that quality should be your top priority, but sometimes quality should be allowed to suffer for the sake of getting a job done on time. Get into the habit of striking a good balance between the quality of your output and the amount of time (and resources) it consumes.
Taking pleasure in the accomplishment of a goal
Get into the habit of feeling happy when you accomplish a goal, and you may find that you take more pleasure in the process. If anything, this may help your motivation and morale.
The habit of being competitive
Competitive people tend to excel for the simple reason that they have a lot of motivation. They are motivated by their lust for being first or winning.
Such a base primitive urge has a lot of power: ergo, if you are in the habit of being competitive, then turn that habit into a powerful tool. The other person/people you are competing with do not even have to know you are competing with them. It is an internal process that you leverage to become more productive and efficient.
Time management
Your productive time is the time during the day in which you may work and be productive. It is not necessarily the time you spend at work, though one hopes your workday has productive time in it.
Time is a valuable resource, and your productive time should be spent cautiously and managed wisely if you wish to remain productive.
The ability to work well with others
The most productive people are the ones that work in teams. From the days of Henry Ford creating cars, to the days where top rated animated shows have episodes created within six days, teamwork creates productivity.
Budget management
A productive person is one that is able to take what resources are available and achieve a task with as little expenditure as possible, with the least amount of time spent as possible.
It is difficult to know and understand how many resources are being used if you are unable to manage and maintain a budget. Building a good budgeting habit may be a great idea.
A willingness to perpetually improve
Only through perpetual improvement, usually via trial and error testing, will you achieve a long-term productive state. Creating and maintaining the habit of trying to improve yourself has limitless power. It makes you a stronger and more productive person as you age, and one hopes that is the goal for most people.

Secrets of Your Talent and Dominant Gift Empowered by Your Thoughts

This post was written out of my own experience and some experience from successful people today e.g. Michael Jordan.
Talent and Gift
There is something you can do better than anybody else; there is something that makes what you do easy and different. That’s your talent.
We all possess innate abilities and talents. Some of us may have discovered their talent at a very young age.
Failures do not make use or leverage their innate abilities. They do not bother to discover, improve and successfully deploy their talents.
They function in the area of their weakness instead of building on their strength. They talk about how gifted an athlete, singer, painter, writer, scientist is, but fail to develop and deploy their talents.
You are as blessed as every other successful celebrity, entrepreneurs, athletes, singers on earth.
Success is not the birthright of a few people. It is yours if you want and desire it.
“Failures do not use their God given talents.”
No matter how much money you generate working at a job where your talent is not utilized, you will remain unhappy and unfulfilled.
Your unhappiness is as a result of not using your talent. When you fail to use your gift by refusing to put it to work, you do not honor yourself.
If you want to honor yourself, start developing and deploying your talent. Use them, focus on them, and deploy them creatively. And you will be happy you did.
Avoid Giving Excuses About Your Talent
People who give excuse lie to themselves, they lie to every other person they give an excuse to.
Each time you give an excuse, you tell a lie that dehumanizes you. It makes you feel less and insignificant.
There is a point you get in life and you realize that every excuse you give determines the amount of failure you will be rewarded with.
You can do better than what you are doing, become more, achieve more and change the world!
People who struggle through life are those who have never developed and deployed their talents into creative use.
The truth is that majority of people do not even scratch the top of their potential, talk less of utilizing it. Your potential lies dormant waiting to be stirred up and utilized.
Mike Murdock, the bestselling author of the law of recognition, says that you may have many gifts, but to succeed in life, you should place your full concentration on your dominant gift.
Advantage of dominate gift
This is the innate abilities that empower you to shine almost easy. When you build your life around your dominant gift, you will reign and rise up to the top of your career, calling and profession.
What happens if you don’t deploy your dominant gift?
If you don’t focus and deploy your dominant gift, you will struggle up the ladder of life, while others who use their gifts ride the elevator to the top.
How failure and success begins in the mind
If you limit your thoughts, you will end up in failure. But if you place your attention on improving your dominant gift for creativity with strong thoughts of confidence, you will surely make it.
To a great extent, to master failure you should first take a good look at the thoughts you accept to hold sway in your mind. Guide your mind preciously.
“Success thoughts attracts success result”
“Failure thoughts attracts failure result”
Creating your world with your dominant gift with the power of thoughts
You are the architects of your destiny. You are the creator and designer of your future. You create your reality by the thoughts you encourage in your mind.
The thoughts you encourage are the forces which attract success and failures into your lives.
Thoughts are alive.
Thoughts are things.
Thoughts are magnetic forces.
Thoughts are your reality.
Thoughts are pictures.
When you brainstorm about a particular word in your mind, what you see is a picture of that word.
Example
Word in your mind is a CAR.
What model of car did you see?
I saw a Range Rover, I love the car. Word generates images; these images takes change our minds and ultimately our lives.
You should fill your mind with vibrant images of success. To be successful, hold images of success in your mind.
Daily things to do which affect your dominant gift with your thoughts:
  1. .If you want to become an outstanding successful person with your dominant gift, learn to paint a beautiful picture of yourself successful in whatever endeavor you choose to devote your life to.
  2. .Wake up in the morning with that picture in your mind. Go to bed with that picture in your mind.
  3. .Create a picture of all the great things you want to accomplish with your life.
  4. .Put it in a board or in a folder where you will see it regularly.
The simple and hard way to keep your thoughts which affects your dominant gift alive is to read books written by successful people. Invest in your mind; it is your greatest asset.

finish what you started and never quit

Finish What You StartHow many times did you start a diet, only to quit after a few days?

How many times have you started exercising, running or swimming, but after a little while later you stopped?
Did you try to stop smoking or drinking, but could not resist the temptation to smoke or drink again?
Quitting before achieving your goal is quite common. Just look at the New Year resolutions people make. Do they start carrying them out, and if they do, for how long?
It is so easy not to finish what you start. It is so easy to quit, and it requires no effort.
Why people quit what they set out to do?
Accomplishing goals and tasks requires effort.
It is always easier, and there is no effort involved, when you seek immediate gratification. Eating, drinking, smoking, going out and having fun require no effort, and it is something you can enjoy immediately, unlike losing weight or bodybuilding, which require time and effort.
What happens after you quit? You feel a bad about your lack of self-discipline, and then try to find excuses why it was the right thing to do.
After some time, you meet people that started to do what you did, but had enough self-discipline to continue and get results. This often, awakens envy and anger.
The difference between you and the people that finish what they start doing is self-discipline. They possess self-discipline and persistence and you don’t. You might say they are lucky, but this is not luck. It is self-discipline, and it is something you too can have.
After getting what they wanted they can enjoy it.
They were willing to sacrifice some pleasures, some laziness, and some effort, so that they gain something greater. They use their self-discipline to shape their body, lose weight and achieve various goals and tasks. Then, they can enjoy the results, and often, get the admiration of the people who never finish what they start.
There are people that study, earn a degree and find a great job.
Some spend time learning a foreign language, and others persist with swimming, running, or working out, even if it is difficult at the beginning.
Some build a business or a career.
All these people have the discipline to continue and not quit.
If you never finish what you start, how can you achieve anything? You need to undo this habit, and develop the habit of finishing what you start.
What can you do to get self-discipline and finish what you start?
There are several things you need to do, so you can finish what you start.
  1. Think over and again about what you read here, until you realize how important self-discipline is.
  2. Look at the people around you, who started a certain project or decision and followed through until they get what they set out to do. See how determined they are about that project or decision and how they behave.
  3. Start with very small projects, or simple, daily tasks that do not require too much time and effort, so as to gain confidence. This will also help you overcome laziness, if you are guilty of it.
  4. Practice self-discipline exercises. You will find a few exercises to start with in myarticle about discipline. If you need more guidance and advice and more exercises, you will find them in my book about this topic.

Why You Should Pull Faces in the Mirror Every Day

Play and Fun
Every day, first thing in the morning, you should pull funny faces in the mirror. It should be your top priority – just before you wash your face.
Having a sparkling clean face is a good thing, no doubt about it. But would you really suffer if you missed the odd day or two, or washed it later?
There are other things in life we are told to do every day. Change your socks, brush your teeth, eat fruit and vegetables, spray on deodorant, We do these things religiously because they are good for us, and our mums told us to do them.
Here’s something many mums forget to tell their children…
What you SHOULD do every day
I have a new thing I propose we should ALL do every day for the good of our lives. It’s not the usual humdrum cleaning your ear type of thing. It’s MORE important than that, yet so neglected…
That is to play and have fun.
Why is it that fun is not seen as an essential thing to do every day? It’s not even seen as an essential ting to do every week. But listen to this…
Without fun we are doomed. We move away from a “human being”, to a “human doing”. We move from living to existing.
This is obviously not good for the soul. Our happiness suffers. We get more stressed, and less effective at work. We argue with our friends and family, and push them away. The world begins to feel like a cold hostile place.
All work, no play…
Without fun and play we can focus too much on life. We begin to take it too seriously. Instead of enjoying life for what it is, we continuously try to change it. This means we NEVER enjoy the moment we’re in. We’re too busy looking to the future at how to improve things. The problem is that even if we do manage to “improve” things, we move the goal posts again and look for further improvements.
This is why I propose that everyone should make sure they have a little fun every day. This should be seen as an essential component of your day. More important than washing dishes or grooming your hair.
MAKE time for fun
Prioritise time to have fun. MAKE the time. You wouldn’t say you didn’t have time to shower or brush your teeth would you? That’s because you don’t want to smell or have rotting teeth. But do you want to be miserable, snappy, and stressed?
To get yourself off to a good start, you should pull at least 5 different funny faces in the mirror every day. This should be before you brush your teeth or wash your face.
In fact, do this right now. If you haven’t got a mirror handy, then use your web cam. Or you can go free style – there’s no official rules. If you’re in a public place like an office, then pull them slyly without anyone seeing. Perhaps at someone when they’re not looking. This adds to the fun!
Doing this will set you up for the day. It will get the muscles in your face working. It might even force you to crack a smile. It will also remind you to have some fun.
Too many of us spend our lives chasing rainbows. Constantly looking for something better, we never appreciate what we have. With a little fun in your life, you get a break and remember the world you are in right now.
Having fun does not need to be expensive, difficult, or time consuming. It can be simple, like pulling faces in the mirror, or behind someone’s back!
Here are a few ideas…
Fun ideas
Here’s a few other simple ways to have fun…
Learn how to Moonwalk. Admit it, you’ve always wanted to be able to do this.
Make a paper aeroplane.
Seduce your partner.
Call someone you haven’t spoken to in ages.
Have a go on a musical instrument you can’t play.
Watch some comedy.
Play with toys.
Final thoughts
Start your day by pulling faces in the mirror BEFORE you brush your teeth. See it as an essential part of your routine. Then continue the day as you left off. Life HAS to fun if you want to enjoy it and stay sane. Spend more time in the NOW. It’s too easy to get bogged down with the boring things in life, such as work and your mortgage – yuck.
Make your life enjoyable and try and enjoy EVERYTHING that is happening, even the boring stuff. Leave notes around your home and office if necessary, reminding you to “Have Fun”. This will help keep you sane, and just might save your life. At the very least it will be more interesting. Enjoy!
